Our story
Mindwalk Yoga is a not-for-profit social enterprise launched in 2020 by Zakiya Bishton, a British Wheel of Yoga teacher and specialist in Yoga therapy for anxiety, PTSD, and insomnia. Zakiya has been sharing yoga as a teacher for 13+ years and a practitioner for 20+ years.
We are the UK’s first online yoga studio led by Black women. We are a diverse group of women with knowledge and experience in the myriad of benefits yoga can provide in general wellness and in supporting conditions and life stages, including anxiety, depression and menopause. While our online studio is open to everyone, we also host exclusive online Black women’s resting retreats.
Yoga is proven to support physical and mental health, yet, it is often exclusive, expensive and lacks inclusive spaces led by Black people. Through our research, we’ve found that Black women feel underrepresented in Yoga and have felt unwelcome in mainstream yoga spaces. We’ve created Mindwalk Yoga as an antidote to this reality.
We run livestream classes and have a diverse range of practices available on our YouTube channel.
Alongside our online studio, we run employee wellness programs for purposeful businesses. We partner with mental health organisations. We work with UK health authorities providing socially prescribed yoga and much more. We’d love you to learn more about us - read our FAQs and explore our website.
