Hello, it's Zakiya here, I hope you're well and finding time for yourself. As we ease ourselves into the festive season I want to revisit Paula’s thoughtful post on burnout. Recently I’ve had so many conversations about people feeling exhausted and experiencing burnout symptoms.
“Burnout is often, though not always, related to work. If you find yourself experiencing a lack of energy, cynicism and disillusionment around work, little or no satisfaction in your achievements, sleep problems, turning to food or substances to feel better or to numb out, or the emergence of physical symptoms (such as headaches or digestive issues) you may be in the midst of burnout.” – extract from Rest + Calm: Gentle yoga and mindful practices to nurture and restore yourself.
I invite you to pause and ask yourself, how am I feeling? Do I have to do everything on my “to-do list” today? Can I carve out five, maybe ten, or even 15 minutes of me time to do something that brings me comfort?
Here’s a curated playlist for Burnout prevention and recovery - practices to rest, restore and renew. My favourite practice to restore my energy levels is the extended healing sound bath. I always sleep so well afterwards. Fancy some soothing tunes? I've curated a burnout recovery playlist here. It's collaborative so please add in!
I’ll borrow Paula’s wise words again: “Remember to be gentle with yourself as you navigate burnout and remember that prioritising yourself isn’t selfish. Taking good care of you benefits those around you.” I often have to remind myself of this, taking good care of myself isn’t selfish, it is beneficial for me and those around me.
